Help Flat Stanley See More Sights!

My kindergarten daughter, safely known to the internet as Mancub2, is working on her Flat Stanley project and mailed him to a family friend out of state.  Our discussion was, "Could we send him to other people?" and my Twitter-mind kicked in.

What a great way to show the power of Twitter and the educators that use it to share resources, ideas, questions, and answers. I am hoping to get some response from those in and connected to my Twitter network. I'm not going to post this on my blog(s) or announce it anywhere else. You may feel free to do so, but I want to show the teachers in my district (and anyone else who is along for the ride) one example of how a network of people can support each other even if they have never met face to face.

Mancub2's Plea:

"Please take a picture of Flat Stanley at an important place near you. We want him to see something that we don't have here in Austin."  You can print out Stanley and take a photo of him and then email us a copy of the picture.  Or, being that we are 'mailing' him to you via this wiki, feel free to bend the rules a bit. You may want to 'pose' with Stanley using a photo you already have and a photo editor.

We are sharing this with her teacher, Ms Kruger, and all of the students in her class. We really hope you will join us and share in Flat Stanley's adventure this year.  It all starts with downloading Flat Stanley from here!

Ladies and Gentlemen, start your Stanley's down here.  :)

This picture was taken in Gove County, Kansas - which is in western Kansas.  It is called 'Castle Rock' - completely made of limestone - you can even find fossils of ocean life when Kansas was just an ocean:)

Hope you enjoy!

Good luck with your project!

Hello

Here is Stanley enjoying the view from the observation tower at Aransas National Wildlife Refuge.

It's one of the best places to see a whooping crane in the US.

Check it out on Google Maps!

Great Project.  Thought I would send Flat Stanley on a little trip to Lijiang China. He is pictured with me and a falconeer in Lijiang City. We (Western Oklahoma State College) have a cooperative agreement with Chuxiong Normal University   and spent several days in June 2008 in Chuxiong working on the agreement, touring and testing video conferencing technologies.  We actually did a video call from Chuxiong to my office in Altus Oklahoma  There is a link with more pictures and commentary about this trip on my site

Here is Flat Stanley welcoming us to a wonderful creperie in the Bretagne region of France.  I guess he convinced the restaurant owners to let him try his hand at baking crepes, which are pancakes that are just about as flat as he is.  They were delicious (the crepes, not Flat Stanley).

Flat Stanley and Yoshi hung out in Washington DC for the Inauguration of Barack Obama.  It really cold.  They enjoyed drinking hot cocoa afterwards to warm up.

Flat Stanley definitely has a lot of stamps in his passport!  He just loved exploring Kyoto and these tunnels of orange wooden gates.

Dear Mancub2,

Flat Stanley had a great visit to PBwiki this week! He helped our engineering team code a new project, wrote a newsletter with Kristine, helping Emily with some filling, sold a wiki with TK, and even answered a few support questions. Here's a picture of Flat Stanley with the whole PBwiki team - he really loved that PBwiki t-shirt!

Because he worked so hard, and because we love your wiki so much, we're sending you a free gold-level PBwiki subscription for one year! We hope Flat Stanley can visit again soon!

Dear Mancub2,

Flat Stanley had a great time in St. Louis, visiting the ARCH! We are the "Gateway to the West" and he rode all the way to the top in a little egg like elevator and looked out to see the beautiful city! He was disappointed the Cardinals weren't playing, because the stadium is nearby, but he did get a chance to see the beautful Clydesdale horses --part of Anheuser Busch. Thank you for letting him visit the great midwest!

This is Stanley, my best educator friend, Mercedes and I. My friend and I are having a drink at a table in a seaside restaurant located in Santorini, Greece in June of 2008. The view is spectacular and Stanley is standing at the top of a hill waving to us.

We had the most amazing time and Stanley was a great travel companion.

Hi Mancub2!  Stanley has come to visit the beautiful New River Valley in Southwest Virginia. This is the New River.  It is different from most rivers because it flows NORTH!

Great Project, I look forward to seeing everywhere Stanley goes.

Stanley had a great visit to Fort Gratiot, MI. However, he forgot his coat and was very cold.

He is staning on snow and ice in front of Lake Huron. Thomas Edison lived about four miles

south of this point when he was a youngster. Stanley should come back in the summer to

swim and play on the beach.

Since Stanley was so cold we decided to take him on vacation with us to Key West.

Stanley is standing at the southern most tip of the continental United States. He wanted

to go swimming but he had the wrong suit.

I love showing Stanley and his friends the sites around Washington.  I knew that I would be going to Seattle today so I saved my photo until today.  I wanted to make sure Stanley actually got to go to the place in the photo.

This is the famous Seattle Space Needle.  It was built for the 1961 World's Fair.  My husband's dad was a brand new iron worker when he worked on this landmark.  Since then, he has had his hand in the building of several buildings and landmarks around the world.  It is fun to take an elevator to the top of the Space Needle.  On a clear day you can see the Olympic Mountains, Mount Baker, the Puget Sound and the mighty Mount Rainier.
